Kalyan-Dombivli inches towards 'Clean City' tag, KDMC bags 77th rank

Kalyan - The Kalyan and Dombivli cities improved their ranking by taking a jump from the 237th place to the 77th rank in the ‘Clean City 2019’ survey of the Union Urban Development Ministry.

Both these cities with a population of over 15 lakh were known for uncleanliness. Even Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari had termed these two cities as the most uncleaned cities.

This remark of Mr. Gadkari seems to have prompted the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) authorities who took efforts that resulted in improvement of its rank on pan-India level.

The KDMC lost points in respect of solid waste management as the said project has not been solved yet. Other issues such as no closure of dumping ground and various incomplete projects have cost the civic body its place among first 50 clean cities.

The civic body has received funds under the JNURM and “Amrit” scheme for construction of sewage treatment plants. A network of drains has been laid but it is not being connected with this treatment plant.

A senior civic body official said that the Union Government fund of Rs. 114 crore has been received under the “Clean India” campaign. Of this fund, Rs. 60 crore will be spent on the solid waste management project. The Barave project is being opposed by the local residents. Had the project been implemented, these cities could have secured a place in first 50 cities, he claimed.

Ambarnath secures 30th place

Meanwhile, the Ambarnath Municipal Council has attained 30th place in the ‘Clean City 2019’ survey of the Union Urban Development Ministry.

The local civic body has succeeded in implementing various projects such as classification of garbage, manure production, etc which has helped the city to achieve this important milestone.

It is to be mentioned here that the city of Ambarnath had stood on 67th place in the list last year. This year, it has improved its ranking and now it stand on number 30.

On state-level, Ambarnath has bagged fifth place and other four are the municipal corporations which means that Ambarnath municipal council has bagged the first position among municipal councils across Maharashtra.

Badlapur bags 51st position

The Badlapur-Kulgaon Municipal Corporation secured 51st position in the ‘Clean City 2019’ survey. It had bagged 89th position last year. This year’s improvement in the ranking is attributed to the solution on solid waste management.

KDMC starts water pipeline repair work

Dombivli - The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) authorities have finally taken up the water pipeline repair works from Tuesday. This repair work is going to affect water supply in Dombivli East localities.

According to sources, the main water distribution pipeline in the Bandish Palace square on New Kalyan Road was leaked a month back. The leaked water flow resulted in damaging the road. The paver blocks used by the concerned authorities could not stopped deterioration of the road.

The wastage of water forced Mandar Halbe, leader of opposition in the KDMC, to write a letter for drawing attention of executive engineer Rajiv Pathak towards this problem.

Fire brigade employees to get special salary

Kalyan - The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has accepted the pending demand of hike in salary of fire brigade employees.

Municipal Commissioner Govind Bodke has issued a circular on Tuesday stating that fire brigade employees will get Rs. 380 and officers will get Rs. 400 as special salary. The pending dues from 2013 will be released in phases.

It is to be noted here that State Government has issued a GR in February 2013 directing the concerned department to provide 20% amount of fire brigade employees’ salary as special salary. The KDMC had failed to implemented this directive.

No vendors in railway station area

Dombivli - The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has decided to strictly implement its policy for roadside vendors. Under this policy, vendors in the city will be rehabilitated. The civic body has suggested some options to the roadside vendors. No action on part of vendors is being initiated in this regard as leaders representing vendors are held in the judicial custody. Meanwhile, the KDMC has kept this policy aside due to ongoing Ganesh festival. On the other hand, local residents have expressed satisfaction as no vendors are seen around railway station these days.
